Dados es una de las principales publicaciones de ciencias sociales en América Latina. Creada en 1966, publica trabajos inéditos e innovadores, procedentes de investigaciones académicas, de autores brasileños y extranjeros. Editada por IESP-UERJ, tiene como objetivo conciliar el rigor científico y la excelencia académica con un énfasis en el debate público basado en el análisis de temas sustantivos en la sociedad y la política.

Resumen
This is a study of the socio-political context in which programs of popular education were implemented in Recife from 1960 to 1964 under the sponsorship of the state government (the Fundação da Promoção Social) and the municipal government (the Movimento de Cultura Popular). Proposals, programs, reports, interviews, and news reports are analyzed in order to reconstruct the existing connections between different initiatives and their objectives as well as to evaluate the reactions that they elicited from various social groups. The author concludes that the ideological polarization regarding the educational issue represented one form of power competition between groups which sought to address popular demands and groups, mostly connected with local dominant interests, which tried to modernize the state of Pernambuco.
