Abstract
Up until now, the Trotskyist theory of "Permanent Revolution" has been studied as a type of Marxist analysis of the process of economic modernization and its relations to politics, which occurs via the interpenetration of the "modem" and the "traditional". However, the fact that Trotsky developed two distinct formulations of this theory suggests that its conceptual status was altered in the more mature of the two treatments: he moves from a specific description of a historical peculiarity to a suggestion of theory on the basic determinant mechanisms behind revolutionary phenomena. The article endeavors to elaborate on this idea.
