Resumo
The article analyzes some aspects of the participation of women in production through a case study of female labor in the household and in production of homemade goods as found in the city of Salvador, Brazil. The author proposes that the problems involved in homemaking activities be analyzed as part of a complex social reality and that the social division of labor be viewed in relation to the sexual division of labor within the family. The article also reminds us that inter-sex relations are not independent of interclass relations, and that the topic of female labor must therefore be approached from the standpoint of class dominance and exploitation relations, whereby women are differentially affected according to their social status.
