Resumen
The article investigates the role that housing policy played in the British economy under the conservative government's monetarist agenda during the 1980s and early 1990s. Grounded in the extensive literature and data available, the article shows how housing policy was part of a broad strategy meant to boost government control over economic demand - and the balance of payments - and thus become a more efficient instrument within the realm of monetary policy.
