Fixação e Elaboração de Papéis: Uma Contribuição à Teoria

Coelho, Edmundo Campos

Resumen

The author analyzes the dynamics of role-playing in the context of highly formalized organizations, specifically prisons. He develops the argument that the deterministic nature of such role-playing is less a result of a high degree of role formalization than of factors extraneous to the organizational context. On the contrary, the prison's highly structured and formalized environment actually allows for the operation of role-testing and innovation processes, to the extent that it leads to the emergence and continued functioning of a "community of captives" through which the inmates' expressive-needs are met.
