Abstract
This article proposes a critical review of Jose Carlos Mariategui's famous book; "Siete Ensayos de Interprétación de la Realidad Peruana based on its comparison with the most recent approaches to peruvian politics. ln addition, some factual information about Peru before 1968 are provided. We assume that Mariategui correctly noted that the transition from underdeveloped to developed societies, in the Latin- American case, occurs on the basis of an overdetermination of the socio-economic facts by political factors. This however does not completely displace the social and economic influence in the total system.
