Abstract
This article is devoted to the emerging new evidence and acute public debate concerning Soviet agriculture in Perestroika. It focuses on the crucial 1987 re-conceptualization of the nature of the USSR's rural crisis and on alternative solutions. An analytical scheme for viewing these developments in perspective - "The Four Models" - is presented.
