Abstract
A model of the human beings' socio-economic life-cycle is built by relating variables indicating their social origin to their level of instruction, current occupation and level of earnings. An appraisal of, and a comparison among the parameters of this model is effected, with the purpose of showing that in the course of all socio-economic life-cycle the non-white population suffers disadvantages which accumulate in a generation of life-chances distinctively inferior to those enjoyed by the white population. The data are drawn from the National Research through Household Samples (Pesquisa Nacional por Amostragem Domiciliar-PNAD) carried out by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística-IBGE) in 1976.
