Abstract
The paper analyses the relation between industry and agriculture by focusing on certain types of agricultural activities, also operate in industries installed in the rural areas. In addition, the paper points out that many industrial workers cultivate plots and consume the good thus produced. Industries operating in the rural areas of the southern part of the State of Ceara, Brazil, appear to be vulnerable to natural phenomena. The seasonal quality of the region's industrial activity directly favors the preservation of ties with the land. This tendency becomes less direct for industries whose labor force is not a exposed to natural contingencies in its activities.
