A Détente e as Multinacionais

Horowitz, Irving Louis

Resumo

The paper analyzes the role of multinational companies and their impact on the relations between capitalism and communism. The extra-national capacity of multinationals marks the actual end of the Cold War through the rationalization of foreign policy in terms of rich and poor countries, as opposed to the classic dichotomy. The rise of multinationalism amounts to a redefinition of relations between the Western and Eastern blocks, with ideological implications since the internationalization of capital relations, also involved internationalized class relations. On the one hand, the multinationals altered the relationships between the bourgeoisies of advanced and peripheral countries. On the other hand, they encouraged the emergence of militant unionism which resisted their use of cheap extranational labor.
