Resumen
The purpose of this study is to arrive at a definition of (a) some factors explaining the expansion of the integralist movement during its first phase (1932-1937), and (b) some basic elements of this movement. The first part involves an analysis of the leader's political career in the historical context of a transitional society. Two main hypotheses underly this part: (1) the leader's intellectual experience with the "post-modernist" group is central for his political development, since it allows for his analytical method of studying social reality; (2) the historical evolution of the thirties - characterized by tis anti-liberalism, by a tendency towards the centralization of political power and the constitution of far-right groups, etc. - is favorable to the emergence of the integralist movement. The second part studies the integralist movement's nature and questions "l'idée reçue" that the movement is fascist. The author's empirical research verifies that the integralist militants and leader's attitudes and prejudices conform with several Dimensions of the fascist ideology (anti-liberalism, anti-socialism, etc.), and that the ideological radicalization towards the right is stronger among these militants than among the non-integralist control groups.
