Resumen
The fundamental concern of this paper is to explore the theme of political participation in Imperial Brazil, both in terms of tegitimate (political party organizarion), and of illegitimate participation (revolutions). It also seeks to verify the extent to which economic and political power were associated in Imperial Brazil, through the analysis of data on provincial financial contributions and provincial political representation in the Cabinet. It is thus an attempt to specify Raimundo Faoro's thesis, while emphasizing the need to incorporate other variables into the model in order to obtain more refined explanations.
