Novas Demandas, Novos Direitos: Experiências do Sindicalismo Paulista na Última Década

Almeida, Maria Hermínia Tavares de

Resumen

This paper deals with the emergence of new claims, new forms of conflicts, and the recognition of new rights within the big modem enterprise in Brazil as well as with their generalization to a larger group of workers by means of union action and the specific procedures of the labor courts. The evidence presented includes the changing characteristics of strikes from 1978 to 1980 and the content of the collective bargaining agreements concluded during this period by five major labor unions in the state of São Paulo. The author concludes that the Brazilian labor relations system of today is characterized by the coexistence of collective bargaining and political bargaining; centralized as well as decentralized negotiation practices; state intervention and the rise of free negotiation.
