Encontro Suspeito: História e Ficção

Bomeny, Helena

Resumo

The article deals with a general question How can history be examined through fiction? which guides and underlies a more specific hypothesis: How can the shaping of a collective identity be examined through literature? The discourse of mineiridade (qualities and traits characteristic of Minas Gerais) is proposed as an example of the shaping of a collective identity, and the first modernist generation of Minas Gerais during the twenties is identified as the literary group involved In this shaping. In developing the argument, special attention is placed on the relationship which has historically been drawn between history and literature in Minas Gerais and to the selection of the poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade as an emblematic figure in the shaping of a collective identity for that generational group.
