Uma Vocação de Minoria: A Expansão dos Cultos Afro-Brasileiros na Argentina como Processo de Reetnicização

Segato, Rita Laura

Resumo

The article explores the rapid expansion of Afro-Brazilian cults in Argentina in recent years, based on member testimonies. The latter suggest there has been an intent to establish a form of Other-ness within a context where the nation's history has been characterized by state implementation of very radical, homogenizing strategies of great efficaciousness and social penetration. Cult members' discourses concerning the black tradition in Argentina were juxtaposed with the writings of the politicians/men of letters who shaped the idea of nation. One is shown to be the counter-discourse of the other, in a kind of mutual commentary.
