Antropologia para Sueco Ver

Velho, Otávio Guilherme

Resumo

The article provides a panoramic, although not exhaustive, view of the development of social anthropology in Brazil in the last twenty years. It is suggested that this development, however promising, lacks a reflective effort or a "sociology" of itself. The author believes that this reflection is to be made now as its absence is already becoming a hindrance to the development of the discipline. The article also provides an example of a possible analysis of this kind. Its subject is a theoretical orientation the author calls "populist althusserianism". For this orientation, the central concern are the relations between "dominant" and "dominated" ideologies and the broad question of the social position of underprivileged classes and groups.
